Namwali Serpell announced recently on Twitter social media platform that her second novel, The Furrows: An Elegy, will be published by Hogarth Books.

Namwali Serpell is a Zambian writer and Professor of English at Harvard. She is the author of The Old Drift, a novel, and Stranger Faces, a nonfiction book. She had received prize for the promising women writer.

The Furrows: An Elegy
“conjures the ongoing, uncanny experience of mourning, and the longing for reunion that makes us seek those we’ve lost in others.”

Although there is no specific official release date, Serpell however, gave some hints in the recent interview with The New York Review that the novel is set to release in 2022.

A sneak peak on the novel reveals that it begins with a 12-year-old girl who loses her younger brother. As an adult, the girl meets a man who resembles him, but this seeming reunion unfolds deceit and delusion as it becomes known that he is a con man, torn between the scam, his attraction to the woman, and their shared sense of familiarity.

Serpell further revealed in her Tweet categorically stating
“For inquiring minds, it’s (mercifully) much shorter than The Old Drift, and it’s set in the U.S., but it is NOT a wan little husk of “auto fiction.” [This tweet will expire tomorrow.]”
However, she was recently featured in New York Review newsletter, where she has been a regular contributor to the New York Review for the past few years, writing on subjects as varied as the film Black Panther and HBO series Watchmen. Her recent article has been published by New York Review, titled "Black Hole"
