Nigerian author Obinna Udenwe short story titled It Has to do With Emilia is being adapted to film. The short film, which is titled Emelia, has recently completed its principle photography in Johannesburg.
The film was adapted and co directed by mother and daughter Team, Luhnar and Bridget Pickering. It tells the story of an unlikely love affair between a young man and an older woman. Every week, Temitayo, a young, jobless man, receives Emilia, an older, pious woman in his home for evangelism until these visits gradually turn into a sensuous experience for both. Then one day, Temitayo learns from a man who claims to be Emilia’s husband that she has died, leaving him perplexed and shattered.
The film was shot at Moon Valley Studios and in Yeoville and stars two of the most exciting talents in South Africa; Didintle Khunou and Zenzelisphesihle Sparky Xulu. Emilia is currently in post production and will be completed in March 2022 for a festival screening plan.
