Ibua Journal recently announced its 2023 call for submissions to a new issue on the theme of climate change. African writers based in the continent.

Ibua Journal is a quarterly multimedia online magazine offering literary and social commentary on life in the African continent. In their upcoming issue, the journal hopes to features works that showcase the impact of climate change on various locales across the continent. These impacts may include but are not limited to “a change in agriculture patterns thus adversely affecting access to food, or the loss of homes as many are displaced due to floods, droughts or famines, or perhaps its effects on overall sustainable development.”
All longlisted stories and poems will be published in the Ibua Journal under the theme “Climate Change” this year. Out of these entries, the shortlist will include 3 submissions per category (short story or poetry).
The shortlisted stories and poems will receive USD 100 and USD 50 respectively.
The winning story and poem shall receive a cash prize of USD 350 and USD 120 respectively.
Submission Guidelines:
- Only one submission can be entered per author per category (short story (fiction/nonfiction) and poetry).
- Submissions should be in Microsoft Word format in Calibri Light 12-point font and 1.5-line spacing.
- The word limit is 6,000 to 10,000 words for short stories (fiction/nonfiction) and 100 words for poetry.
- Submissions must be previously unpublished.
- Submissions must be in the English language.
- Submissions should include a cover page with the title “Bold 2023: Climate Change” on it.
- Writers must be living in an African country.
- Writers should be 18 years and above.
