Writer Of The Month
Our Writer of the Month for June is Isah Abdulssamad. He has a poem published on Pawners Paper titled, "I Am Not An Activist"
We had a short insightful conversation with the poet, where he shared his perception about contemporary literature and the flexibility exhibited in his writing style.
What defines and distinguishes you as a writer?
Hmmm, I would say the way I view things. I don't just write as a writer; I write as a reader. Whether I am writing a novel or a poem, I make sure it meets my expectations both as a writer and as a reader.
What are your ideas of a perfect piece?
To me, a perfect piece is when a poet or writer uses all the poetic and literary crafts to express their wandering emotions, feelings, and ideas.
What is the scenery you imagine or place yourself in while writing?
If you study my work, you will realize that my sceneries often involve themes of healing, fear, wandering, and the fulfillment of purpose.
Has the sheer artistry employed by past authors and writers been elevated by their contemporaries?
Sure, very much so. Let's take poetry as an example. Poetry today has evolved significantly compared to poetry from a decade ago.
How do you cope with writer's block?
I drop my pen, watch movies, listen to songs, read, take walks, or engage in exotic conversations with like-minded people.
