The press release for the Longlist for the 2021 Kendeka Prize For African Literature was made today, 1st September 2021.
The Kendeka Prize For African Literature is initiative brought into reality by the Kenyan Writer, Andrew Maina, through Solano Publications Limited. It was primarily organized to encourage the participation of Africans and strengthen the widespread literacy in the continent. The winner of the Prize will be awarded Kshs 100,000, the second and the third places, Kshs 50,000 and 25,000 respectively.
The released Longlist for the 2021 Kendeka Prize features 13 stories, chosen by the judges (Lucas Wafula, a Kenyan, the Editor-in-chief, and CEO of Booklyst Press Limited; Edwige Renée Dro, a writer, a literary translator and a literary activist from Côte d’Ivoire and Remy Ngamije, a Rwandan-born Namibian writer and photographer, the founder, and the administrator of Doek. He won the Africa Regional Prize of the 2021 Commonwealth Short Story Prize and was shortlisted for the AKO Caine Prize for African Writing in 2020 and 2021).

The shortlist for the prize is set to be released on September 15, 2021. And only three stories will have the chance to be shortlisted. While the award ceremony itself will be held at Fourteen Falls Leisure Lodge, Thika, Kenya, starting at 2.15 pm in FULL observance of Covid 19 Protocols on the 25th September, 2021.
